My experience in ENG 3UI
This course was mainly based on human rights, and the human rights abuses that happen in our lives everyday, whether we are aware of them or not. We focused on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the individual rights articles that make up the UDHR. Our first text we read as a class was Macbeth, which overall was a pretty good story (in my opinion). When we finished the text, we made a formal literary paragraph with the topic of our choosing. I chose to do Lady Macbeth, and why she manipulated Macbeth into committing the murder of King Duncan. We also had to do a digital seminar containing the history of Macbeth and compare him to a tyrant. We chose to compare him to Joseph Stalin, the terrible leader of the Soviet Union, Russia. Since it was such an easy comparison, we had a huge lot of information about both of the tyrants. We collaborated to make a digital seminar that included an infographic, a slideshow, and a prezi about the rise and fall of Joseph Stalin. After the Macbeth unit, we moved on to our class novel, Indian Horse. It was a really good compelling book told from a great point of view. We read the story through weekly chapter checkpoints. Then we did a series of activities involving Indian Horse like blogs and questions to stimulate thinking. My favourite part about this class was probably reading Indian Horse.
